One Mom's Story: Colleen and Baby Augusta

Augusta Marie - Colic CalmColleen and her husband shared pure bliss when they brought their first child, a daughter named Augusta Marie, home from the hospital. Life was good, the baby was perfect and they journeyed on to this new stage of life called Parenthood. However, about five weeks into it, something happened. Augusta cried . . . and didn’t stop. In her own words, this is Colleen’s story. “As brand new parents, my husband and I gladly accepted advice from many different sources regarding how to best care for our newborn. Being a first time parent to an infant is an incredibly

amazing, yet daunting life change, and it goes without saying that you always want your baby to be happy, healthy, and content. Perhaps the most terrifying aspect of bringing home your child for the first time is learning how to communicate with them and understanding how they express their needs to you. Our baby was a relatively happy infant, and the first month of her life passed with very few bouts of fussiness, and those times when she did cry, we were typically able to satisfy her with more food, swaddling, rocking, or cuddle time. However, one evening in particular she began crying, screaming, fussing, and writhing in a way that we had never heard before, and she was completely inconsolable. This was quite alarming to my husband and me because it seemed to be a scream indicating pain. We initially suspected her to be gassy, but after just a few nights passing of this same exact pattern of behavior, it seemed unlikely that gas was the sole cause of her discomfort. My husband suggested that she may be suffering from colic, and after we looked up the typical symptoms, we were fairly certain that this was the problem.” After doing their research, Colleen and her husband found out about gripe water. “I first heard about the use of gripe water in a Facebook women's forum that I belong to, called "The Boob Group". This is a group of a few hundred mothers, mostly comprised of those living in the South Carolina Lowcountry. This group was originally founded as a breastfeeding support group, but has since grown to be a wonderful forum where mothers can exchange information, as well as seek support and guidance about parenting. Our little one was becoming habitually fussy without cause on a nightly basis, and we were able to deduce that she was experiencing colic. I recalled reading about various "gripe water" remedies for this ailment, and hence learned about Colic Calm.” Anticipating another colic bout that evening, Colleen let her husband know about Colic Calm. “I told him that I had heard about other mothers on The Boob Group having success with Colic Calm, so he went to pick some up at the drug store. At first, we were suspicious of the strange black liquid consistency, but after administering the first dose to Augusta as indicated, she calmed instantaneously - we were amazed at how quickly it worked! She fell happily asleep within minutes, and we still use Colic Calm on a nightly basis after her evening feeding. (Augusta had developed a predictable pattern of becoming very fussy around 6:30 each evening, so we established a routine of administering Colic Calm around this time each evening, typically prior to feeding. If we found that she was still fussy after her evening feeding, we would administer one additional dose.) Augusta has come to expect and enjoy her Colic Calm, and smiles each time we give it to her - it's almost as though she enjoys it as her dessert! Our pediatrician recommended that we continue with this homeopathic therapy for her, until we do not feel it is necessary any longer.” And that's music to our ears.
