Seven Pregnancy Mocktails

Seven Pregnancy Mocktails

For many of us in 2021, we cannot log on to our Facebook or Instagram accounts without seeing a pregnancy announcement (COVID baby boom?). As the saying goes, “there must be something in the water.” At CalmCo, we are no strangers to the excitement of bringing new life into this world. From those trying to become mothers, to those who are currently expecting and those who have newborns, navigating the many delicate intricacies of motherhood is not for the faint of heart.

In the spirit of celebrating all of the brave ladies out there, we’d like to make a toast to you all with these mocktail recipes (cocktail recipes without the alcohol).

Cheers, Mommies!

1. Frozen Lime Tonic

Summer is fast approaching, and this recipe is straight from the personal kitchen of our Director of Marketing. Nothing says “Pool Day” quite like making a frozen lime tonic. It has all the hallmarks of our favorite recipes: it’s easy to make, quenches thirst and keeps you cool.

Recipe:
Serves 4
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
• 8 cups of ice

• ¼ cup Lemon Juice. We recommend using Nellie & Joe’s Key West Lemon Juice.

• ½ can of Minute Made Limeade

• ¼ cup of Agave Nectar

• 1 bottle or can of tonic water. We recommend using a 200ml bottle of Fever Tree

• 1 lime slice, garnish

Instructions
1. Fill blender ¾ of the way up with the 8 cups of ice

2. Pour in the lemon juice, limeade, agave nectar and tonic water

3. Blend together on high until well mixed

4. Pour into glasses

5. Garnish with a lime

2. Sparkling Blood Orange Soda

Missing the taste of a Mimosa? This is a MOM-mosa friendly recipe that’s perfect for brunch.

Recipe:
Serves 2
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
• 1 bottle of sparkling mineral water. We like to liven this mocktail up with the bubbles of Topo Chico

• 1 cup of fresh squeezed blood orange juice. If blood oranges aren’t is season, Natalie Orchid Island is a great option

• 1 orange slice, garnish

Instructions
1. Split the bottle of seltzer between two glasses. For a full MOM-mosa experience, we recommend opting for a champagne flute

2. Pour half a cup of blood orange juice into each glass

3. Garnish with a slice of orange, or serve as is

3. Virgin White Peach Sangria

We know traveling is a bit more difficult these days, but nothing says exotic vacation like sipping on some sangria. Our recipe for Virgin White Peach Sangria can take you from brunch to dinner, or maybe just keep you company while you’re nursing your little one in the afternoon.

Recipe:
Serves 8
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients
• 1 quart white grape juice. We aren’t picky here with our brand – we’ve had good private label and we also have been known to use Welch’s

• ½ cup of orange juice, preferably pulp-free. We like to use Natalie’s Island Orchard

• 1 12 oz can of peach nectar (this is typically in the international food aisle or by canned juices)

• 1 cup sliced peaches. If fresh peaches are in season, this is our recommendation but we know all Mom’s like time saving so frozen works just as great

• 1 cup green grapes

• 1 lime, thinly sliced

• 1 lemon, thinly sliced

• 1 small orange, thinly sliced

• 1 bottle of sparkling mineral water, again we LOVE Topo Chico

Instructions
1. Place all the fruit into a large pitcher

2. Add in the grape juice, orange juice, and peach nectar

3. Chill for at least 1 hours, but if time allows the longer you let the fruit soak in the juices the more “authentic” your sangria will be

4. Immediately before serving, add the bottle of sparkling mineral water. If you’re making the pitcher for yourself. You can pour the juice and fruit mixture into a glass over ice ¾ of the way and then top with seltzer

4. The Virgin Mary: Classic Bloody Mary

For many Mom’s reflecting on their pre-baby days includes reminiscing about Sunday’s spent with friends at brunch with a Bloody Mary bar. The Virgin Blood Mary is a classic mocktail recipe and a great way to experience the savory and spicy beverage. Plus it might be the easiest mocktail on here to make.

Recipe:
Serves 1
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients
• 12 ounces of your favorite Bloody Mary mix. We’re all about keeping this simple, but if you want to try your hand at doing it from scratch follow this recipe here

• 1 stalk celery, garnish

• 1 pickle spear, garnish

• 3 large green olives, garnish

Instructions
1. Pour your favorite Bloody Mary mix over ice

2. Add in your garnishes

3. ENJOY!

5. Moscow Mocktail

If you’re a millennial Mom, or Mom-to-be, you probably have thrown back a Moscow Mule (or two) in your day! This refreshingly crisp and cool drink has been in circulation since the 1940’s but had a resurgence of popularity that started about 10 years ago. Happy hours don’t have to be a thing of your past, just mix up a quick Moscow Mocktail and zoom your girlfriends. It’s all about #selfcare!

Recipe:
Serves 1
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes

• 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice

2. Stir together

6. Virgin Margarita

When we polled our staff, which is 95% female, the general consensus was that Margaritas are the favorite adult beverage of choice. Also, the general sentiment was that this is the most missed drink during pregnancy. What’s a taco Tuesday without a Margarita?! Our resident Mom-to-be tested this recipe out and gave it two thumbs up as a substitute for a Margarita on the rocks.
