Spring Activities for Babies and Toddlers

Spring Activities for Babies and Toddlers

We absolutely love spring at CalmCo. We love that the days are getting longer and that gives us more time with our precious children to make memories. The weather is warming up, trees and flowers are in bloom and spending time outdoors is a great way to spend the day with your little one. We’ve put together some of the best activities to encourage your baby and/or toddler to explore the world around them. Read on for the perfect spring activities:

Sidewalk (or Driveway) Chalk Art

This is a super simple, very affordable activity that is suitable for kids of all ages. You can find chalk at your local Target, Walmart or Dollar Store or order off Amazon. We like to draw flowers for spring and work on our numbers and alphabet with our young children in the driveaway. It’s a great way to get some learning and some play in.

Blow Bubbles

Little kids love to play with bubbles and can often go through a whole tube in one sitting. Bubbles are essentially soapy water, so we love making them ourselves to play with. It can cut down on cost and you can make them whenever you want.

The easiest way to make bubbles is to create your own solution by combining 2 cups hot water, ¼ cup dish soap, 1 (.25 oz) packet of gelatin and 2 tablespoons of glycerin. Be warned that these do leave a sugary residue behind where they land so it’s best to use this recipe outdoors.

Play in the Rain

The saying goes April showers bring May flowers. Grab your best rain gear and take advantage of the spring rain. We like to have dance parties in the rain and then warm up inside with a favorite yummy snack afterwards.

Fly a Kite

Grab a kite or make one and head to a local park. It’s fun to run around with your toddler and help them to get their kite up in the air.

Make a Bird Feeder

This activity is easy for little hands and short enough to hold a toddler attention. Pour some bird seed onto a cookie sheet or cake pan. If you have a pinecone, loop string or twine around the top. If you don’t have a pinecone, you can use a paper plate and punch a hole in the top and put your string through.

Use a spatula to smear peanut butter on the pinecone or paper plate then roll or dip into the bird seeds. Hang the pinecone or plate from a branch and find a quiet place to watch for bird visitors.

Feed the Ducks

As the weather turns and migration starts, bring some cooked rice or birdseed to a pond or a ravine near you. You can feed them a tasty snack and do some bird watching.

Plant a Garden

Get your hands dirty while making your yard pretty. If you’re gardening for the first time start small. That way you can get and keep the little kiddos involved. You can find a list of kids garden tools here. Take a trip to your local nursery to pick out flowers or opts instead to make a food garden and plant some vegetable seeds.

Wash the Car

On a warm spring day get the whole family involved in cleaning up the family car(s). It’s a great way to get a chore checked off your list, spend time outside and teach your kid.

Head to the Park

Get all that extra energy out and enjoy the warmer weather by spending the afternoon at the park. Find a park with a playground so you can race down slides, climb and more!

Read Outside

Pick out a few of your little one’s favorites and head to the yard to sit outside in the sunshine and read!
