“Yoga Babies” Have Better Digestion, Calmer Demeanors, and Sleep Better

“Yoga Babies” Have Better Digestion, Calmer Demeanors, and Sleep Better

Yoga babies typically have better digestion.
Yoga babies typically have a calmer demeanor.
And yoga babies typically sleep better.

Does your little one struggle in any of these three areas? When practiced regularly, research has shown that yoga poses offer a multitude of health benefits for infants—primarily concerning digestion, stress/mood, and sleep patterns. Try incorporating baby yoga into your little one’s daily schedule to see if certain poses make a difference. We always recommend consulting your child’s pediatrician with any regime changes, especially if your child has major health concerns.

Promotes Digestive Wellness

The most common and manageable yoga poses for gas relief are Happy Baby and Pavanamuktasana (AKA Wind Releasing Pose). Instructions can be found here.

Colic Calm, Colic Calm Plus or Tummy Calm is a great supporting supplement for gassy or colicky babies. While yoga can help relieve some gas through physical manners, the Colic Calm formulas help target the source of the gas bubbles with naturally active ingredients.

Calms and Relaxes Baby

Yes, babies can feel stressed too! Because your baby is going through so many developmental transitions at a fast rate, that can often lead to exhaustion. Over or under stimulation is also a contributing factor to baby anxiety. In addition to being intentional about your baby’s environment, try these calming yoga poses throughout the day: Easy Seat Pose, Viparita Karani (AKA Legs Up the Wall Pose) and the digestive wellness poses previously mentioned. Instructions can be found here.

Helps Baby Sleep Better

Sounder and longer sleep is a natural result of baby getting digestive and stress relief. Although it’s not the case for every baby, many babies’ consistent disruptive sleep patterns are related to excessive gas or distress. This video gives an example of a bedtime yoga routine that’s designed to promote rest and deep sleep.

These benefits are no surprise since regular yoga can offer the same benefits for mom, too! Here’s a great “Mommy and Me Yoga” resource if you and your little one could both use a healthier gut, happier attitude, and good night’s rest.
