For the Busy Mama: Simple (Yet Satisfying) Self-Care Ideas to Replenish

Medical professionals deem self-care as an “invaluable” and “crucial” component of motherhood. Without regular self-care practices, moms–new moms especially–increase their risk of serious mental health issues including baby blues, Postpartum depression, anxiety, and even Postpartum psychosis.*

In other words, don’t compromise on self-care.

Self-care is just as important as any homemaking, motherhood, or wifely task. But as moms ourselves, we know how difficult it can be to make time for it. After all, we feel like we don’t have enough time for everything else on our plate!

Here are a few self-care ideas for the busiest of moms:

Listen to a Podcast (15-60 minutes)

Podcasts are a great option because you can pop it on during a car ride, shower, or while you're getting housework done. Try one of these podcasts that you can listen to in under an hour:

Journal (2-5 minutes)

Journaling is a quick and easy form of self-care. Even if traditional journaling isn’t your forte, you can use this space for a quick brain dump, goal setting, habit tracking, prayers, a gratitude list, or even something cute your child did that day.

Take a Bath (15-25 minutes)

Upgrade your rushed daily shower to a warm and relaxing bath. By implementing these five bath tips for moms, you’re guaranteed to feel like you’re at a resort-style spa!

Take a Walk (5-30 minutes)

Does your neighborhood have trails or sidewalk paths? Take an early morning or evening walk. Daily walks offer multiple mental and physical health benefits including immunity support, improved digestion, energy boost, uplift moods, and many other others. Read more about the benefits of walking here.

Just Breathe

It’s the end of the day. The kids are finally asleep, and you just hopped in bed. You’ve been running on E lately, so self-care went out the window today. Just breathe. Take 3-8 intentional deep breaths—in and out. If you have enough fuel left, add a little meditation or prayer to this breathing time. Take a moment to clear your mind of anything negative, reflect on today’s blessings, and cultivate a heart of gratitude.

After reading this article, our hope is that you will make time for daily self-care – even if it’s just for a few minutes.

Take care of your family? Yes, absolutely.
Take care of your home? Of course!
But remember to take care of yourself, too.
